Ultrafiltration membranes provide filtration with a sensitivity of 0.02 micron and run cross-flow. Unlike reverse osmosis and nano-osmosis membranes, ultrafiltration membranes do not provide ion removal. The purposes of ultrafiltration membranes are delicate sediment filtration and bacterial, microorganism removal. Seawater desalination is used as membrane protection filter in reverse osmosis systems as well as in drinking water bottling plants for bacteria removal.
